10 August 2019. At Belgian Beer Geek Tasting. Cheers to the crew, thanks for hosting, Tim! Hazy black, lasting, thin, dark beige head. Aroma of fondant, coffee bean, black pepper, chili sauce, fig, beef jerky, toast. Taste is light to medium malty sweet, chocolatey with a hint of vanilla, bitter black pepper, coffee & spices battling with umami soy & black olive, vague sour undertone of dark fruit. Dry, peppery hoppy finish, lingering toast, cinnamon & chili, some warming coffee liqueur-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, fizzy carbonation. Nicely balanced but could have been even stronger tastewise.

Sample at the new tap room. Brown-black color with a medium beige head that recedes gradually to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of chocolate, cinnamon and chili pepper. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, peppers and dark chocolate. The finish is chocolate malt and peppers. Pretty good all around.

22 oz. bottle, shared by Cybercat at Ale Alpharetta. Pours dark, opaque, ruby brown, with a big, tan ring. The nose is molasses, milk chocolate, mild and pleasant jalapeno (none of that vegetal character that often comes with chili beer), and light cinnamon. Very sweet, very light roasted bitterness, and a relatively light, pleasant heat. Very heavy body, thick, syrupy, and rich. Overall, this is a great example of a spiced stout; great balance, delicious, and not overpoweringly spicy.
