The first Reserve release of 2020 was aged for 3 months in rum barrels imported from Jamaica and finished on over 2,500 pounds of coconut, 1,000 pounds of toasted hazelnut, and 200 pounds of chocolate. The use of authentic ingredients enhances the flavors imparted by the barrel, including notes of rich molasses and sweet vanilla, without overpowering this delicious brew.

Beetje veel rum, maar op zich best te hakken

Too bad I haven't had a chance to try the base beer before, but o'boy. Feels like they forgot to empty the rum barrels before filling them. Strong boozy rum covers everything. Very alcoholic, sweet, some coconut and vanilla comes through in the back.

On tap at New Holland - The Knickerbocker, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma reveals overbearingly intense rum barrels upfront, followed by lots of coconut -- smells like a pina colada. Maybe there's a bit of chocolate and hazelnuts, but I don't pick it up. Flavour is absurdly intense, with humungous amounts of booze and rum, with coconut to follow. Again, I don't really get the hazelnuts and coconut. The rum is overbearing. Ridiculously brutal beer.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma very much of rum with chocolate syrup and coconut. Flavor leans more on the chocolate syrup, molasses, but definitely has the rum as well, roasty, coconut, and I also get the hazelnut here. I definitely enjoy it, but some more intensity could make it really sing for me.

Bottle/Fest. A- Booze, chocolate. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, brown head. T- Coconut, cocoa, rubbing alcohol. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, harsh finish. O- Way too boozy. In fact it tasted like fresh second rate rum. Perhaps a couple years would mellow this out but for now, this is a hot mess. Get the chocolate and coconut and I suppose even a bit of nuttiness, but the boozy mess from the rum is just too much and overpowers the entire thing.

Bottle from Holiday Market. Pours a deep chestnut brown with a finger of beige foam that dissipates. Rich milk chocolate aromas with rum underneath. Some mild oak and coconut as it warms. Molasses, prune and coconut on the palate with some faint hazelnut maybe. Smooth with the rum fairly well integrated, although fairly sweet on the palate. Lingering fruit and chocolate on the finish with rum. Some rum raisin notes going on.
