Rainier Pale Mountain Ale is a light-bodied pale ale. It’s brewed using two-row barley and Yakima Valley hops, so it’s got a solid malt backbone and clean citrus finish. Both the beer and the packaging was inspired by a pre-Prohibition pale ale brewed by Rainier Brewing Companies in the 1930s.

Bottle pours out clear crisp copper topped with a white head. Nose is light pine some citrus hops and a cereal malt. Taste is more of the light hops along with a mellow malt bill.

Pounder bottle from work. Aroma is floral hops, chalky candy. Pours clear copper with a medium off-white head with good retention and a little lace. Taste is a little malty sweet with some light hop bitterness. A little past expired maybe. Not bad for ole Rainier. I wish I could have tried it fresher. I think I’ll be able to polish this six pack off just fine, though. Edit: much better straight from the bottle.

Bottle from On the Fly. Clear amber pour with small, tight, creamy head. Sweet caramel malt nose, little bits of toffee and butterscotch. Taste continues on this path, nice slick, medium weight body, goes down easy. Pabst’s Old Tankard. Comes to mind, another blast from the past.

Copper with a white head. Clean toasted malt profile. Mild citrus hop notes over top. Very clean, short lived finish with a slight sweet citrus punch. Medium thin body. Pretty solid, actually. Not a lot going on overall. It put out the fire of some ABTs I smoked so I can’t complain.

16 oz bottle, second half poured. First half tried to foam out upon prying the cap, but I refused to let a drop go to waste. I’m rating this, because I was born and raised in Washington, and damn proud of it. So intrigued by the six packs of this that popped up, but went with the single instead. The average Rainier product lasts quite a while in my fridge. I don’t mind it, but typically use it as a palate cleanser between sours. This one gave me a sense of expectation though. Didnt throw down a bet or anything, but maybe I should have. It’s pretty good. Cloudy copper pour. Biscuit, cereal malt aroma and flavor. Hints of bran. Good hop compliments. I’d go with the whole six pack of this. Pretty good beer overall. New Rainier beer means we are bringing back the motorcycle commercial right? Raaaaiii.. nevermind.
