Barrel aged Quad is brewed in the spirit of collaboration. We combine traditional techniques and ingredients like Belgian candi sugar with American innovation and experimentation by the use of bourbon barrels. Our Quad is amazingly balanced and smooth while maintaining the dark fruit notes that are the trademark of the style.

Tap at the Scrapyard, Alkmaar. Poured a clear dark reddish brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is toffee caramel, red berry fruits, light boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate to strong sweet, with a smooth rich, oily, light fruity, treacle toffee, light warm alcohol bitter. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation.

Always happy to find a new quadrupel to try, I found this 12 oz bottle at City Swiggers in New York City a few weeks ago. The weather is beginning to turn, I can enjoy some of the heavier brews now. The glass of choice is my Straffe Hendrik chalice. With some VNV Nation playing in the background, I pour and see a liquid similar to La Trappe’s quad followed by a momentary, tan head. The scent is burnt sugar and dark fruit. Now the payoff drink, I find malt, red cherries, dark plum, leather and brown bread. Very little sweetness, moderately bitter for a quad, some of the barrel shows up and there is a small burn too. Touches many bases, I would gladly buy again.

Dark ruby colour, vanishing head. Aroma has bourbon, vanilla, berries, toffee. Medium to full-bodied. Quite flat. Candy sugar, berries, toffee, vanilla and bourbon in the flavour. Ok flavour but same time a bit dull with its minor carbonation.

Toffee, dried fruit, boatloads of smooth bourbon, quite a bit of oak. Right up my alley. 4.1

A pretty well made quad. Sweet, caramelly, malty, all that should be there. Add the bourbon barrels, and you get a bit more complexity, some bourbon, some wood. Pretty boozy, but no more than you'd expect. Well balanced. Solid.

Keg at the brewery, 5/4/19. Hazy dark amber, medium creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of bourbon, whiskey, cherry, dates, brown sugar. Taste is brown sugar, cherry, plum, yeast, oak, mild booze. Medium bodied, low carb, moderate heat and spice, well balanced. Nice beer.
