Barrel aged Quad is brewed in the spirit of collaboration. We combine traditional techniques and ingredients like Belgian candi sugar with American innovation and experimentation by the use of bourbon barrels. Our Quad is amazingly balanced and smooth while maintaining the dark fruit notes that are the trademark of the style.

Sweet malty with notes of caramel and dark dried fruit, toffee fudge, brown sugar, spice, bourbon soaked wooden accents coalesce with some vanilla sweetness into the dark malty boozy warming finish. Lovely.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is toffee malt with bourbon, vanilla, oak, dried fruits, raisins, caramel, and a touch of candy sugar. Flavour is sweet with a light bitterness. Body is medium. Not as heavy and complex as I expected, that being said this is certainly fine and enjoyable with plenty of character from the bourbon barrel.

Beer #14 of my 10,00th Beer Milestone Celebration! Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin, tan head that fades pretty quickly and leaves a very thin lace on the sides. Aroma of very enjoyable molasses, pitted fruit, caramelised sugars, raisins, prunes, a bunch of bourbon and cognac notes and a light dose of grapes and nuts here, but the sugars are very strong and super enjoyable, in the nose at least, and it seems that the 5+ years in the bottle has really helped this out - in the nose, for sure, with a muted, but strong scent that isn't pungent, astringent or bitter at all - great! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong toasted malt notes show with a light dose of grainy and earthy qualities with some nuts as well, but the sugars shine through a few seconds later and give way to a myriad of caramel, toffee, treacle, raisins, molasses, figs, prunes and pitted fruits that dominate at the finish as well, with a great balance struck between sugars, malts and even rustic qualities, with an underlying earthy and nutty finish - very nice for sure, with some good bourbon warmth at the tail end and some alcohol that does come through, but seemingly only in single digits! Aftertaste shows a great balance of everything at play here with a good alcohol punch, but better sugars and malt notes with a light nutty flavour, some good bourbon finishes and a dry toffee and rustic quality - very nice and while only showing a touch of the spiced yeast component, the sugars, bourbon and especially rustic finishes make for a very nice beer throughout. Overall, a super enjoyable beer with a pungent alcohol, bourbon and especially pitted fruit and sweetness here that really penetrates throughout, but the complexity and range this has while being so approachable and dare I say, 'mild', is very nice, especially for the style. Now i'm only curious what an extra 5 or 10 years in the bottle would have done to this - now, the next time I'm around Wisconsin, I'll have to look for more bottles of this and save them for a long time! I sampled this 12 ounce bottle as Beer #14 [of 21 - 10 (for 10,000) of Each side of the 10,000 Beer Milestone and the 10,000th itself!] of my 10,000th Beer Milestone, purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 22-September-2018 for US$3,89 sampled at my house here in 22-May-2023.

Bottle courtesy of Virby44. 2017 vintage. Auburn with a creamy head. Lovely aroma: bourbon, toffee, marzipan. Very promising. Taste is toffee sweet with a big, bourbon finish. Full bodied, carbonation moderate to mild. Warming. A touch too much bourbon, particularly at the end, but the beer still keeps its own profile. Tasty.
