they must have started to bottle this, this one is courtesy of Treborwhip, says on the bottle it’s from Old Dominion brewery, nothing about coastal brewing. Bottle, pours black with a tall tan head. Strong vanilla and oak nose with some carmel and maple syrup. Roasted malt and a light smoke and peated malt flavor ends with a strong oaky wood note. Not bad at all, I like it.

Interesting that there is a separate place to rate the draft! We all know the draft is different from the bottle, almost every time. I have had the bottle version of this now lets give the brewpub a chance. Pour is pitch black. Roasted malt, coffee and some chocolate greets the olfactories. Thin creamy tan head. First taste is roasted woodiness. Immediately I think the draft version is about the same consistency as the bottle. Lacing is decent as you drink. The bitterness of this is somewhat difficult to describe. It is not a lingering bitterness but it makes itself noticed on each sip. The carbonation of this brew is flat, just like most of those nitrogen propelled beers. Even a little tinglyness would be welcome. Stout aroma continues thru, with each taste. The finish on this sets it apart from the bottle. The bottle has a continuing bitter finish that lasts, and this finish, tho medium light bitterness, does not linger - it is very much appreciated.

On tap at the brewpub, RBSG 2006. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt and chocolate - the aroma is surprisingly weak. The flavor is sweet with notes of whiskey, roasted malt, and wood, leading to a dry end where the whiskey lingers around. Compared to other barrel aged beers, I’m disappointed in this one.

On tap. Poures a deep brown with a deep tan head that reminds me of guinness because of its creaminess. Aroma was of roasted malt and coffee with chocolae and vanilla. Flavor was roasted malts and chocolate with some smokeyness and vanilla. Mouth was very creamy and enjoyable. A real nice stout.

Thanks to jeffc666 for sending this to CaptainCougar who shared this growler with everyone at KP’s SE Gathering. This pours black with a ruby ring around the edge and still managed to raise a decent off-white head. Aroma was big and full of roast malts that were repeated in the flavor. The bourbon is secondary to the oak, vanilla and other complexities that dominate the flavor of this one. Very tasty Stout.

90% opaque dark brown in colour with a thick dense tan head. Strong smells of honey, vanilla, oak and roasted malt. Full-bodied; Strong oak and vanilla flavours with a subtle lingering sweetness and a malt background. Aftertaste bittered from malt, but sweetened by the sugar, vanilla and honey flavours. A great overall beer, too bad they don't bottle it! As the beer gets warmer, tobacco and other burnt essences get going in the beer and shape it very nicely. A beer that should be sampled by anyone with a few minutes to spare in Washington! I had this on draught at the Old Dominion Brewpub in Ashburn, Virginia on 23-August-2003.
