Brewed in collaboration with Pen Druid, for release at Witchstock 2019, Druid Fluid is a unique barrel aged beer worthy of savouring. With the help of Jennings, Van, and Laine, we picked up Gamay grape skins from Rosewood Winery (fresh out of a wild fermentation) and used these to inoculate a base beer. That beer was then fermented with both red and white wine must, before going through an extended slumber in old and new oak.

What. A. Journey.

(500ml bottle from the Hafis Rd bottleshop) Pours nearly clear pale orange-tinged red with a small whitish head and lace. Aroma of extremely oaky and funky rosé with red berries in light vinegar, perfumed florals, lactic edges, intense manure and barnyard, well-structured oak, rather lambic-like, herbs and minerals in the back. Flavour is moderately tart and lightly sweet, again a deep rosé wine vibe with strawberries and grape skins, smooth lactic and light acetic acids, moderate wood, funk is more restrained than the nose, when opened it had rather medicinal astringent and herbal qualities in the finish but air rounds those off and fills in more tart fruit. Finish is off-dry, quite mineral, sulphurous funk present amidst vinousness. Medium-bodied, oily, lightly carbonated. Interesting business here, very reminiscent of both lambic and natural wine as you'd expect. I like this, though it did benefit from some air.
