The inspiration for this dark and mysterious collaboration with Dugges is an old Gothenburg Porter; our recipe is loosely based on historical malt bills. There’s also a modern touch, with a hint of peated malt and a nice alcohol backbone to really layer up the roasty flavours. In Scandinavian folklore, Draugen is the ghost of a sailor, now often associated with anything dark or mysterious about the sea.

Keg at BD Mighty Boosh, 09/10/17. Black with a dirty tan head that retains well. Nose is earthy, light charr, dark fruits, dark chocolate, spice. Taste comprises roast malts, molasses, mellow smoke, raisins, bitter chocolate, burnt toffee, black peppery spice, tar. Medium plus body, fine carbonation, drying close. OK impy if a touch raw in places. Blended some of this with Cearealist Manifesto and it made for a better all round beer !

0.33l bottle. Black body with a thin light brown head. The aroma is quite citrusy and piney first but then the chocolate, coffee and caramel takes over the place. Taste of chocolate, smoke, caramel, spicy hops and nutmeg. Great beer.

On tap. Pours black with a light white head. Aromas of sweet dark fruit, roasted malts and a hint of smoke. Flavors of dry powdery roasted malts, black coffee, dark fruit and light peat. Very dry. Very nice, not a peaty overkill.

Keg at Brewdog shepherds Bush tap takeover. A clear copper reddy brown coloured pour with a a fine tan head. Aroma is weird, tcp phenols, petrol, cinammon, citrus, solvent alcohol. Palate is semi sweet, hot, little chewy, lowish carbonation. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty malts, brown, bread, cinnamon, petrol, pencil rubbers, spices, bit of a weird one.

Keg at BD Shepherd's Boost. It pours deep brown with a small bubbly beige head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, smoked malt, tobacco, wet dog, spice, cacao nibs and earth. The taste is pretty bitter, earthy roast, charred wood, smoked maltage, earthy, tobacco, peppery spice, leather, chewy malt, ash and earth with a rather drying. Medium body and fine carbonation. Very dry and a bit bitter for the style. Fair enough.
