Spezial Pils

Tap. Clear golden color with white head. Aroma is pale malts. Taste is pale malts, lightly sulphuric, herbal hopspice. Oily mouthfeel. Excellent Pils, but why Spezial? At 4.9%, it's not an Export. Anyway, it's a top-notch Lager!

On tap at Beavertown Extravaganza 2017. Cleaf pale gold colour lasting white head. Fairly authentic bready good hop on finish. Bready no doubt. Decent pils style lager.

Draught @ Rogue Waterfront. Gold. Pours with no head. Has a nice herbal hop nose with light bready malts. Nice dry herbal noble hop taste, good bitterness. Pale malts are bready, fairly lean. Dry herbal hop finish.

Draft - Honeyp and some bready notes. Clear gold with a decent white head. Spicy noble hops and some grains. Tastes good, but nose is very mild.

12 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 5/10/2017. Pours slightly hazy pale golden/straw color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of pale malt and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. A bit of fruity/earthy yeast in the aromas, but not overwhelming. Taste of lemon, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, light pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, cracker, lightly toasted biscuit, white bread dough, herbal, pepper, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance. Slight lingering hop astringency, but not overwhelming. Very clean on lager flavors, with minimal yeast notes present. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.9%. Overall this is a very nice German pilsener. All around nice robustness and balance of pale malt and earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink; despite the increasingly bitter/drying finish. Really spot on style example; but might have some American noble-type hops, instead of traditional German varieties. A very enjoyable offering.

Can (Beergium, canned 04/07/17)
Pale yellow colour, small white head. Herbal, sticky and grainy aroma. Light-bodied. A bit sweetish front, then grainy, herbal German hops in the flavour. Decently malty and quite German. After 4 months feels that could be a bit younger.

12 ounce can from Total Wine Brookfield. Clear yellow amber, large foam white head, good retention. Aroma of strong grainy malts, earth and grass. Almost wort-like. The taste is grain, caramel, earth, lemon. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Seems oddly weak and oxidized even though its a can that has been kept chilled. Weird. Almost a great beer but needs some tweaking.

Can. A hazy golden beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt, herbs, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of fruits, straw, and malt, leading to a bitter finish.
