Backlog January 2017. Clear amber body under a tan head. Mild malty aroma with rather discrete hop profile. Taste is sweet, dark malt, chocolate, slightly roasted and rather bitter. Medium body with a sweet, malty and bitter aftertaste. Quite pleasant, but too malty to leave much room for the hops.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - xx. xx.19, from Vinmonopolet, 20180816) The beer poured clear and nearly black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had burnt malts, liquorice and pine. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, ash, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt, medicine like and bitter. A rather unpleasant brew that was difficult to drink.

330ml Bottle (Thanks Cunningham) - Dark brown with orangey red tinges. Liquorice, fudge and pine in the aroma. Liquorice, roasted malt, fudge and some faint hoppy and soapy notes. A tasty beer but not sure the Black IPA character is coming through enough. A bit too roasted.

Bottle. A dark brown beer with a finger thick beige head. Rather roasted aroma with licorice, tar and some piney, citrusy hops. It’s full-bodied, charcoal-ish dry and perhaps a bit heavy on the carbonation. Bitter flavor with some licorice-ish sweetness in the back. Charcoal, roasted malts, tar and licorice, and piney, grapefruity hops up front. Lasting roasted finish. I like the hops in this one, but in my opinion it’s too heavy on the dark malts. At least for the style. 170602

33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet, Trondheim. Pours very dark brown with a modest, but lasting beige head. Hoppy, somewhat fruity and roasty aroma with citrus, licorice and hints of coffee. Moderate to medium sweet with fairly mild flavours, but a pleasant bitterness. Enjoyable and easy to drink (but also easy to forget) --- Beer merged from original tick of Black Bull on 19 Apr 2017 at 21:37 - Score: 7
