This is a big and bold imperial stout, a lot bigger and bolder than most. So, what does that make this beer then? An imperialer (it’s a word) stout? A more imperial stout? Let’s just say it’s big. And, it’s been barrel aged. And, we’ve put licorice in it. As one does. Big Idjit!
Idjit is one of those beers that we’ve done forever. A beer that started out as a horrible experiment. Then became our staple 9,5% ABV imperial stout. After a while we remade it up to 12% ABV, renaming it Big Idjit, jokingly calling it a ’Scandinavian Session Stout’. Big idjit is the perfect beer for barrel aging and refining. In fact, several barrel aged versions have carried the name Perfect Idjit. This version is taking it a step further, refining the beer after barrel aging. In this case by adding just the right amount of licorice to the beautiful bourbon barrel aged beer. What’s more perfect than perfect? Perfecter (it’s a word) Idjit. Good night!

11.2 oz. bottle, pours a thin black with almost no head -- looks flat. Aroma is full of big bourbon barrels upfront, followed by subdued black licorice, and some vanilla. Flavour is rich and oily, with lots of bourbon barrels, tons of licorice, and subdued dark sugars. Extremely oily mouthfeel, with almost zero carb. Could use a little more carb and less oiliness, but the flavours do work. Not a huge fan of licorice, but it's integrated nicely enough with the bourbon. Finishes quite boozy and oily. Good stuff.

Bottle from Livionia Liquor. Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of beige head that dissipates. Lots of warming bourbon on the nose with licorice, dark chocolate, vanilla and faint peppery aromas. More of the same on the palate. Nice bourbon and fudge goodness in a bottle. Warming finish with lots of bourbon and vanilla and dark chocolate with licorice. Great stuff as usual from Dugges!

keg at salty... dark black.. small tan head... soft sweet roast malts nose.. dark rich chocolate roast malts.. big sweet chocolate.. massive licorice linger... its lingering....licorice won't go away... I recon if i kiss my wife when I get home, she will probably taste the licorice
