The Legend of the Wampus Cat, spawned in Appalachia from Cherokee Indian folklore, depicts a half-woman, half-mountain lion that reportedly walks on hind legs and has four additional sharp-clawed appendages. This creature from American folklore, along with Strangeways Triple IPA, share the predestined ability to drive people crazy. Attempts at courage will likely be futile, as glowingly hypnotic eyes and an astounding seven different hop varietals wield their dominance and potency. First in the Annihilation Series, Wampus Cat Triple IPA should be treated with utmost caution, if the rare fortune to confront one presents itself.

32oz growler pours a clear but dark orange, nearing amber, with some sticky white head. Nose is big with soap and pine, some juniper too, heavy grapefruit, blood orange too. Flavor follows, bitter with citrus, some blood orange, a little persimmon, soap, pine, some caramel notes. Full bodied, sticky, bitter finish. Basically just an old school DIPA.

Keg at The Answer brewpub. Pours a clear copper with a medium sized creamy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of strong hops, resin, pine, citrus, melon, pale malt. The taste is strong resin and pine hops, mild caramel malt. Medium bodied, strong lingering bitterness. Definite hop bomb, but balanced... just barely enough.

Location: Draft at Mekong, 5/2/14

Aroma: The aroma is grapefruit/tropical hops, biting hops, and a bit piney as well
Appearance: It pours a murky reddish-orange color with a beige head and some light lace
Flavor: The taste is along the same line, biting grapefruit, tropical, pine hops
Palate: The body is medium-plus, with a sharp mouthfeel, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a pretty enjoyable beer. Well made and plenty hoppy. It doesn't quite approach my absolute favorites in the style, but I certainly had no complaints with this one.
