Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 9/20/12

Aroma: The nose has some orange/citrus, a little spice/tea, candied sugar notes, and a little earth
Appearance: Pours a clearish orange color with a lasting sheet of white head and medium-plus lace
Flavor: It has tea and spice up-front, not super sweet, and finishes with a light-mid hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it feels fairly creamy, a touch sticky, has a soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this one worked pretty well, and improved a good bit as it warmed. Rock Art makes some pretty mediocre beers, but this is by far one of the better things I've tried from them. This one is worth trying for sure.

Pours a hazy dark amber color with a stingy white head that dissipates quickly to a ring. Smells of earthy herbal resinous hops with a twinge of buttery pale malt. Judging from the aroma this isn’t like an ESB I’ve had before. Taste is malty up front for a couple of milliseconds before the hops assault my palette with all they’ve got. Bitter herbal resinous citrus hop bite infused with pale and maybe a hint of toffee. Bitter dry finish. Medium body, bitter resinous mouthfeel, medium level of carbonation. Pretty good Ipa, but it could probably use a bit more malt backbone. I’m not sure I would ever attach a British style designation to a clearly American take on a beer. I enjoyed it.

Sampled on draft at Zeno’s in State College PA this beer poured a hazy yellow-gold color with an enormous yellow-white head. The aroma was moderately strong fruity and floral hops and not a whole lot else. The flavor was bitter, sour, crisp and fairly full of fruity and floral hops with a light sour malt underbody. The finish was dry and bitter. Somewhat undistinguished.

A hazy amber ale with a thick frothy off white head. A bready fruity extreme ESB, with nice pungeant hops, light berries, and wet dough. In mouth, a dry crisp malt with notes of honey, restrained hops, subtle and piney, a bit short, gin alcohol in finale. Medium to rich bodied. A decent Rock Art. Bomber shared rom probstk, May 26 2009.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a largish, foamy off-white head. Hazy amber body with a few black yeasties at the bottom. Good lacing. Aroma of booze, and dark fruits, caramel and apple brandy, slightly metallic with a bit of bread. Smells a bit like 2005 Fuller’s Vintage. Taste is dry, then a bit bitter, finishing metallicy. Some alcohol present too, a little bit of crisp apple halfway through. Kind of tastes monochromatic. Lively mouthfeel, but on the dryish side which feels odd for a warming beer of 8%.

Bottle from Sun Devil in Mesa, AZ ($4.99; lucky New Englanders). Amber color with a three-finger beige head. Aroma of sweet grapefruit. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor starts malty sweet with grapefruit, moves to pine, moves to grapefruit rind - always balanced with a malt backing. Tingles my mouth.
