Aging our beloved Bourbon County Brand Stout for more than a year is uncommon in the Goose Island Barrel House. This additional development process involves special care and is not suitable for all beers or even all barrels.
In this special case, we received uniquely older casks: 11-year-old Knob Creek® barrels. Spending prolonged time in these barrels brought out more complexity and intensity in the flavors from the barrel, allowing you to enjoy the signature flavor profile of an older Knob Creek® Bourbon.
This added complexity cannot be obtained from shorter maturation periods and greatly differentiates this special reserve release. We hope you enjoy and appreciate our labor of love.

2-Year Reserve Bourbon County Stout was aged 24 months in 11-year-old 25th Anniversary Knob Creek barrels. The barrels of this once in a lifetime bourbon delivered an oak-forward intensity accented with subtle hazelnut and chocolate notes that complimented the flavors inherent in Original Bourbon County Stout. 2-Year Reserve is incredibly special, and we’re excited to share this variant with you all.
Hops: Millennium
Malts: 2 row, black malt, caramel, chocolate, Munich 10, roasted barley.

Bottle, 500 ml at my bday Grande Tasting. Black with off white head. Lots of chocolate, bourbon, coffee, cocoa, sweet, oily. Full bodied. Bourbon is superbly integrated. Quite complex yet balanced.

Bottle pour from share with AirForceHops--thanks, Chris! It's an opaque black with nice viscosity, no head or lacing. Aroma is strong, pleasant bourbon, dark fruit, mild anise, toffee and roasted malt. Taste follows aroma. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thick texture, soft-to-average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, strong aroma and flavor with nice complexity.

500ml bottle. Heavy, sweetish and slightly roasty with loads of barrel notes, bourbon, toffee, vanilla, oak, wood and hints of syrup. Quite nice, a lot more barrel and bourbon notes here than in the regular version.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of huge bourbon notes with some woody note and vanilla with some sweet black chocolate notes is quite enticing. Taste is a great mix of bourbon, woody and vanilla notes with some sweet black chocolate notes. Body is full with oily like texture and good carbonation with some warming alcohol notes also showing. Solid version of BCBSS with great bourbon notes and added complexity.

Bottle shared at a year end share at Ryan's. Thanks to whoever brought this. Pours a pitch black with a finger of brown head that dissipates. Big dark chocolate, fudge and bourbon notes. Warming on the palate, but lots of fudge and bourbon and toasted molasses underneath. Smooth finish, very bourbon focused, but with more chocolate toasted walnut and fudge. Decadent.

Pitch black colour. Strong aroma of tar. Thick body, sweet, full mouthfeel; it has strong flavour of roasted malt and liquorice, salty, umami, mushrooms, and some vanilla.
It's powerful, but unelegant.

Raiting #5002. 500ml (thx, Ryan E.!) @ home shared with Alex and Andrey. Appearance: very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: licorice, soy sauce, tar. Taste: along the same lines with nutty notes. Overall: pretty much the regular BCBS in my opinion, maybe a bit more elegant.

Bottle supplied by Goose Island, sampled with my family over Thanksgiving. The family agreed that the pour was noticeably thick, but it also was a pretty smooth sipper. I caught the chocolate from the start. Bourbon notes started slowly, partly because in our dry house, my nose was getting stuffy. But it became more pronounced even from my little glass. The back of the palate had coffee going on. I felt like I was picking up smoothness from oatmeal, but I don't think that's been a part of the BCS grain bill. Gentle coffee and cocoa aftertaste lingers after the beer is finished.
