From a crowler. Pours a clear dark cola with a tan head. Aromas of bourbon. Flavors are bitter roast with a hot finish.
Nice flavor, still bourbon forward, nice notes of vanilla, chocolate. Nicely crafted.

Pours black into a shaker. Tan head with little retention recedes to nothing. Vanilla and bourbon aromas. Sweet caramel and chocolate upfront turning to hot bourbon and oak in the warm, lasting finish.

Taster pour on tap at NH Brewers Festival. Appearance is opaque black with trace sparkle, thin ring of light brown head. Aroma is strong bourbon (though not overwhelming), chocolate, dark fruit, moderate roasted malts backbone. Taste is initial hit of strong bourbon but once that calms down you can taste the roasted malt base, milder chocolate and dark fruit, hint of alcohol but not harsh. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thick texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, the bourbon is a little too front and center--will likely benefit from some additional aging for mellowing and greater balance--but lessens in the second half and lets the rest of the beer shine. Quite good. 3.9 - 4.0

Bottle shared by Chalameaux on 5/20/17.
Dark mahogany with dark amber tints on the edges and a small, light-tan head showing moderate to low retention.
Very similar to the Julio’s release though probably not quite as much pure whiskey/rye/spice character. More traditional char, vanilla and coconut with lots of milk chocolate and caramel lying behind it for balance. Pretty well-concealed alcohol (this is a pretty good level for an RIS; would never want more than 9.5%) and no flaw. No raw sugar or fudge, either.
Chocolaty and full of strong bourbon character with spicy spirit melding nicely with vanilla and coconut. Rum continues with the spice trend and dries things out significantly on the finish as alcohol warmth enters the mix, lightly. Chewy, malty body, yet proper attenuation to prevent and syrupy-sweet-fudgey character from forming. Quite nice and though I’m not a personal fan of big bourbon character in stouts, for what this is, it’s very well-brewed and aged.

totally black, dark brown to black head. Looks great. small alcohol legs. This smells really nice! Smells like fresh roasted coffee & chocolate milk with almonds & coconut. The mouthfeel is rich, thick. just beautiful. Ultra sweet at first then fades to a delicious oak barrel, cocoa, cinnamon, vanilla flavor. a litle fire wood and chalk and sweet finish. nice and well balanced! Thanks so much AFH

500 ml bottle purchased at the brewery on the release day. Received in a trade with Chalumeaux for some BCS. Much thanks!! Pitch black color, thin head. Aroma of dark chocolate, molasses, roasted malt, coconut, vanilla, and bourbon.
Flavor of chocolate, oak and vanilla. The bourbon and rum is blended so well. Mouthfeel is so damn smooth. Alcohol is mellowing out.
I hope this Brewer does another double barrel stout. Much like the limited edition stout in collaboration with Julio’s liquors in Westborough Massachusetts. Wonderful brew!
