Bottle shared at the 6th annual Richmond Industry Gathering, 11/27/11. Pours a clear amber color with a thin creamy offwhite head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel and herbal hops. The taste is caramel, toasted malts, herbal hops and a bit of chocolate. Medium bodied. Interesting.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 10/2/11

Aroma: The nose has toffee notes, some dark fruits, toasted grains, and a little honey
Appearance: It pours a clearish red-orange color with a small head that leaves no lacing
Flavor: The taste is medium (plus) sweet, toffee and honey, with minimal bitterness present
Palate: The body is fairly light, the carbonation is average (leaning soft), and it has just a touch of boozy heat
Overall Impression: I've generally enjoyed most of the Leviathan Series beers that I have had a chance to try, and while I thought this one was decent, it isn't quite up to my standards for this series. Still though, it is a decent offering.

Bottle via a trade. Pours with a crystal clear copper hued body with a smallish off-white to bone hued head. Some legs, good lace and decent retention. Aromas are malty, slightly stale grain, caramel covered apple, bready, a little bit of melanoidin. Weak for a doppelbock. Flavors are malty, caramel, bready, surprisingly strong perceived bitterness (medium to medium-high bitterness). Bland, crackery malt profile. Light lingering malt sweetness. Not much to it. Overly bitter and lacks the malt complexity exhibited by the best examples of the style. Not very impressed. Boring doppelbock.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large foamy orange-beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was sweet caramel and molasses with a sour nutty undertone. The flavor was strong caramel, molasses, butterscotch, toffee, honey and buckwheat. The finish was long with lingering tangy caramel and honey. Very thick - like syrup. Interesting.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours copper/amber with a creamy beige head. Rich roasty malt aroma. Med + body. Mild carb. No heat. Flavor is slightly sweet malt, but there is something cutting the sugar. Light touch of leather/tobacco. Finishes neither dry nor bitter. But has very good finish.

Bottle: Poured a clear medium amber color bock with a nice foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of solid caramelized sugar with balanced sweetness level is quite enjoyable. Taste is an easily drinkable mix between some caramelized malt with balanced sweetness. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed with nice balanced with great drinkability factor and limited complexity.

Pours deep amber into a stem glass. Off-white head with medium retention recedes to oil surface leaving spot lacing. Sweet caramel aromas. Sweet candy corn, roasted nuts and bready caramel from front to back. Lasting slight earthy bitter finish.
