This really shouldn’t be labeled as an american strong ale, there really needs to be a category for red ales, even if amber ale doesn’t quite fit the bill. Delicious hop bomb, but with the exact right amount of malt foundation. Wonderful.

Location: Draft at the RnH, 12/30/10
Aroma: The nose is resiny and grassy with some caramel, floral, and citrus notes
Appearance: This beer pours a nice copper color with a frothy white head
Flavor: The taste is rather resiny, decent sweetness, very nice hoppy presence
Palate: It has a sticky pine-like body, a nice mouthfeel and a long, dry finish
Overall Impression: Overall this was a very nice example of the hoppy red style. Well-made and highly drinkable stuff. A bigger version of Hop Head Red? Seems like a good idea, and I enjoyed this one quite a bit

Deep red color. Nose of strawberries and caramel, but an underlying hoppiness that just subtly pops its head up without ever being too obvious. The mouth is malt front then hops kick in. A bit heavy but the alcohol is definitely well hidden. Well made, well executed. moderate bitter finish. Excellent.

On tap at Pizza Port San Clemente’s Hoptoberfest. Pours with a clear amber body and a lasting white head. Aromas of caramel, malty, brandy, raisins, marmalade, and some dank hops. Tastes quite a bit boozier than 8%. Flavor notes of booze, fruit, raisins, caramel, orange liquor, and a fresh herbal hop profile.

Draught. Red with a medium white head. Hoppy aroma like an IPA, citrus and flowers. Full bodied hop flavour, again rather with a IPA but with more of a hop edge. Hoppy finish.
