Hazy orange in appearance with a medium mouthfeel, Racogne (“Ra-con-ia”) showcases Mosaic hops and a Belgian yeast of medium flavor intensity to produce mellow tropical fruit aromas and ‘juicy’ hop flavors.

Crowler I purchased from the brewery. Slightly hazy golden color, nice carbonation level. Aroma is nice yeast present, mild tropical fruit with just a hint of pale malt / honey.
Tropical front right upfront with a yeast through out the sip. The yeast is very well pronounced. Fruit comes from the hops but bitterness is low. Lots of lingering fruit. Nice break from the marathon of Imperial stouts right before sampling this.

On tap at Blackback Pub.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy burnt yellow to orange color with a slim finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated immediately. Slim semi-foamy lacing sticks and then slides into the beer.
The smell had some light sweet lemon, subtle Belgian spices, white and black pepper, some sweet orange pulp, sweet grassy hops.
The taste was mainly the same. Sweetness slightly overpowers the bitterness. Sweet orange pulp and slightly bready aftertaste. Wet smooth pepper finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a great sessionability about it. Carbonation seemed to run low enough to allow the spices to hit just right.
Overall, as a Belgian Pale ale it works. I’d have again.

On draught at the brewery, early March 2015
Lightly hazy golden body is topped by a small white head with moderate retention.
Fruity in the nose, not exactly a tropical fruit bomb, but nor is it full of sap and pine and grapefruit. Quite dry, acidic and with a moderate to high intensity though somewhat lessened by the phenols from the yeast. Malt shows only a bare, whitebread-like doughiness and very little sweetness, though it’s not unbalanced.
Though the nose is not conclusively dominated by the hops or the malt, the flavor strikes a more hoppy note, with white grapefruit, limes, lemons and light mangos coursing through the mostly tightly carbonated, soft texture. Bitterness ebbs and flows and may ultimately be a touch higher than I prefer, but this is no resinous, out-of-touch-with-balanced-beer creation. Malt could be a touch stronger; as is, it’s a bit flabby with a bit more wateriness on the end than expected. That being said, this is only a 5.6% belgian ale, at heart, so I certainly wouldnt want it to be thick and chewy. Enjoyable and I applaud the restraint.
