An all Simcoe IPA. We’re calling it an extra because it is not quite a double, but is definitely a big IPA. Huge floral notes in the nose.

Draft at the brew pub. Pours hazy orange with light to medium white head. Aromas and taste are mild; stone fruit, simcoe, bitter hops, mostly balanced. Orange citrus notes with resiny pine toward the back end. Overall, rather tame ipa if compared to others from this brew pub.

Dark orange, muted and burnt. Lot of pine in this nose. Taste is very bitter but honestly, not over the top. Very west coast with the malt, sweetness and piney northwest hops. i get a touch of pineapple and pear.

Draught at Three Penny Taproom, 3/15/14
Slightly chill-hazed golden amber body is topped by a large off-white head that shows modest retention.
Big pine-mango nose is certainly assertive and backed by bready malts. More fruitiness emerges and it melds pretty well with the malts, though the dry, bready malts and the huge alpha acid presence definitely challenge the senses.
Very dry in the mouth, much moreso than I had expected, leaving the bready-like malts quite bare and exposing sourdough-like notes that only exacerbate the heavy hop acid assault. It’s not unrelenting, and to its credit, with all the bitterness comes plenty of lush, juicy simcoe flavor, but I’m just left wanting a touch more malt sweetness or softness to balance. Clean and the alcohol is well-concealed. No wateriness with engaging carbonation.
