A specialty malt called Midnight Wheat gives this beer an almost stout-like appearance without the overly roasty attributes often associated with traditional dark malts. Chinook, Simcoe, Cascade, and Citra hops provide a fruity aroma to complement the earthy, spicy bitterness of this dark ale.

Growler from the brewery in Boston. Noted by the barman as 6.2% ABV. First off, I should note that the growler system kind of sucks; after just two days the carbonation is all but gone. Pours clear brown with a few bubbles for a head. Toasted, lightly doughy brown bread on the nose, hints of burnt pine and cocoa. Light-medium sweet with more simple, toasty bread, mellow bitterness, some earth, milk chocolate. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Toasty bread finish, mild cocoa, earth, dried berries. Poor condition aside, this is still a very simplistic Black IPA.

From a party at work: Pours quite dark brown with a creamy beige head. Aroma is slightly darkish malts with a whole bunch of citrus and resin. Taste is pretty much black IPAish. Nice combination. Nice long and bitter aftertaste. Not overly complex, but nice fast drinker.

Almost black amber edges. Chinook hops on the nose. Fairly juicy. Taste is botter, roasted almonds and tangerines. This is solid and drinkable
