Thxn for sharing, Tim, Wim, And Eugene ! Pours unclear blonde, small white head. Smell is brett, full. Taste is full, brett, aromatic, mild bitter touch. Full and complex. Very mildly bitter in the back.

Senne beer dedicated to the 20th anniversary of a small, old school Brussels cinema, shared by 77ships. Bretted pale ale, apparently, so clearly an elaboration on the Bruxellensis theme, but at a lower ABV. Loose, snow white, bubbly head with lacing edges and opening middle, hazy golden robe with warm peachy tinge. Aroma of fermenting plums, ’Bretty urine’ but fairly subtly so, overripe melons, old wrinkled apples, grape peel, baker’s yeast, moldy old oranges, lemon candy somewhere, gari, bread. Fruity onset, estery with pear and pineapple as well as slight banana, souring gooseberry flavour fitting in beautifully, softish carbo, supple mouthfeel. Bready malt base, bit cereally, with a growing Brettanomyces effect adding dryness, while at the same time the whole remains juicy; retronasal Brett effects of damp hay, wet leather and fermenting fruit match well with a grapefruity, spicy and earthy hop bitterness. Orval was once the only beer combining dry-hopping with Brett (re-)fermentation and has been imitated a lot, but the concept is now, even within Belgium, leading its own life; if ever there was a brewery that has both the technical skills and an affinity with local ’terroir’ that could bring this relatively new trend to perfection, it must be de la Senne. This is beautiful once again, though I did have an even higher impression of the last Bruxellensis I tried from them; still a worthy tribute to a folkloristic cinema, for sure.

Another bretty pale ale from De la Senne. Not sure I would be able to tell them apart…
