Bottled. A hazy dark red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has strong notes of alcohol, over ripe fruits, prunes, and nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, over ripe fruits, coffee, caramel, and berries. The body is light. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of Miver. Pours a clear orangey brown with a beige head. Lovely oxidized wooden Bourbon aroma. Solid body, burned caramel and roasted malts. Sweet Bourbon accents. No bitterness, but some alcohol. Lovely. 130909

This is an excellent Scotch ale. The aroma has smoke, earth, and malt. Flavor is roasted malt and very earthy as well. This beer is all about the malt and there is no hop presence. Just a touch of sugar. It could be a little thick, but quite exceptional as it is.

’04 750 ml bottle I thought that this one was retired since it came in the 750 bottle and is no longer listed on the Stoudt’s website. Pours dark brown with a thick creamy off-white head. Rich caramel aroma with some vanilla and a hint of smokiness. Creamy full bodied sweet brew that goes long inthe finish with a lightly acidic touch. Classic Scotch Ale.

Pitch black in colour with a super-dense tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, bread, cherries and a bit of nutmeg. Medium-bodied; Bitter coffee start with a mild breadiness and a subtle spiceyness. Aftertaste very clean for a scotch, some coffee and roasted malt, no sugars albeit a light yeastie quality. Overall, good for a scotch and a nice beer all-around. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits in Washington, D.C. on 28-December-2003.

Dark reddish brown. A Very malty ale and full bodied ale. Slightly fruity nose, a bit roasty, mild and sweet, but most of all - malty. A well made tasty and true to style Scottish style ale.

At first appearing black in the glass, I found it was actually a beautiful deep garnet red when held to the light. Good sized light tan head lasted a fair length. Aroma was definitely smoky. Flavor was malty sweet and smoky. The bottle-conditioning endowed it with a smooth creamy carbonation and almost velvety mouthfeel. Alcohol presence was noticeable and warming.
