When brewing Black IPAs it’s not hard to end up with dark, burnt malts overshadowing the tangy hop flavours. We like to think we found the perfect balance. It was our goal that the main difference between this black IPA and a pale IPA was that… it’s black!
It wafts of pine, resin, grapefruit and herbs, all subtly complemented by malty, chocolatey notes.
Beer is also available with a citrus zest – it’s called Blackcyl Special Edition, and in strengthened version – Blackcyl Double.

500ml bottle, thanks to djoeye for sharing. Covering fawn-coloured head to a jet black body, clingy lacing. Slightly roasted malt-fruity aromas, scent of chocolate and pine. Similar taste profile of grainy citrus and chocolate malts. Rounded ending with a bite of spruce. Medium to full bodied. Pleasant version of the style. (Polish beer session together with Finn and djoeye, PivotekaH7, Tromsø 04.11.2020).

Spandert av djoeye. Delt med ham og Rune i H7. Svart. Lavt luftig skum med litt farge. Tynn lacing. Lett røstet aroma. Smaken lett metallisk. Litt kaffe i ettersmaken. Litt sevje i avslutninga.

Glass, black beer, small head. Aroma is roasted, malt, hops, citrus. Taste is the same, bitter, roast, light coffee, dry aftertaste, very easy to drink.

50 cl bottle. Pours pitch black. Small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty, breadish. Bitter, crisp hoppy. Lingering fruity, crisp hoppy. Bitter and smooth fruity finish.

This is a weird beer. The body is so round and big it takes away from the crisp bitterness I’d expect from this style. It is also super cloudy and ugly. Szynkarnia Wroclaw
