2004 MSBF draught. Listed as a 2001 Belgian. Being a sucker for vintage beers, I happily gave this one a try. Pours a soft yellow gold, not so much hazy as it was transluscent. Small white head. Smells of sweet bananas, alcohol, sugary malt and light citrus. Flavor is lightly syrupy, giving a medium to medium full body. Palate is smooth and fluid, quite drinkable. Low carbonation and a big maltiness make this one quite sweet as mentioned by many others here, but I found this one to still be solid on the basic flavor. Though I much prefer perfumy, crisp, yeasty alcoholic trippels to the sweet, softer fruitier ones, I still enjoyed this one. Belgian yeast is noticeable, candi sugar in abundance with lots of golden fruit (sweet ripe pears, bananas, apricots, peaches). Not a beer that makes you ponder its complexities as you drink it, but a good drinkable rendition, I thought.

Sampled draught at Big Buck, Grapevine, Texas.
This time I will most certainly go against the grain. I really liked this beer. Pale amber. Lightly acidic toffee aroma. Soft, mature and with mightly maltiness. Sweet and big, but still discrete. Notes of berries. Flavourful and subtle.
