Cloudy brown beer. Thick biscuit coloured head. Light soft palate. How does a six year old DIPA hold up? Actually not too bad - the caramel malt is to the fore. A little hop remains - spicy and grapefruit. Smooth soft finish with a little aniseed. Adds up to an interesting and well balanced beer.

2004 bottle thanks to lumpy. Obviously past its hop prime, but who makes a DIPA as an anniversary beer to age? Pours with a hazy orange body and a large head that fades and leaves good lace. Aroma is barley wine, malty, maple aroma, cardboard, fruits, dirt and no real hops. Similar malt profile to the Maharajah. Taste is sweet with cardboard, orange, caramel and light alcohol. Lively bubbles.

Jimmack Invitational’07, shared by Cornboy (thanks John). He says its been in a fridge since it as purchased, very cool. Aroma is a very green hops, sticky and resiny. Think almost like green herb like hops. Flavor is not old and very lively still, oily shops and sweet biscuit maltiness. Long leafy hops aftertaste. Very enjoyable and surprising.

2004 bomber consumed on 11.23.05. Pours with an absolute immense amount of deep beige head that is very hard to contain. Even just a slight pour yields three to four inches of head. The bottle has been kept in perfect conditions, so this is not too surprising. Color is a dull bronze-amber, with some light mahogany-beige notes, clear and filtered, but with some sediment falling out of solution. Aroma shows pine soil, pine sap, lemons and sugar, limes, grapefruit, caramel, toffee and more resin. Not a whole lot of complexity, though the intensity of the pine has decreased I would imagine, having more of an earthy, dry, old chewy sentiment about it. The flavor confirms this. Chewy/sticky texture of pine resin, dry and lightly acidic, with light grapefruit, lemons and some caramelly sugars. Low to moderate carbonation, but yet the bubbles are large and hugely expansive, way too much so, giving a frothy, airy texture. Drinking more than half a glass proves tiresome to the palate, being cloyed from the lack of complexity and piney dryness. Caramel malt does little to break up the monotony, while some dry, earthy notes that just seem dirty and out of place. Alcohol is well-concealed and only lightly warming.

750 bottle-pours a tan rich head. Color is amber. Aroma is hops, hops. Taste is sweet, sugary, and hops. I am rating to my taste, this one has too much going on, but they are about BIG BEERS.

An orange beer with a small beige head. The aroma is nicely hoppy with some notes of alfa acids combined with slight notes of alcohol and peaches. The flavor is sweet alcoholic with strong notes of hops - giving it a very dry end and a good body. Nice one.

Light copper color with thick, lasting white lace - very herbal and flowery aroma, with background hints of grapefruit - malty up front, with some caramel and pastry-like breadiness - gradual swelling hops lead to a palate cleansing, dry, hoppy finish - pretty well done - almost as good as their regular imperial IPA.

(Bottle 65 cl) Amber coloured beer with a rather small head. Incredibly delicate, fresh, flowery, hoppy nose. Rather sweet caramel malts in the flavour although an extremely dominating aromatic hoppiness quickly takes over. Very complex and tasty beer. 300605

Deep gold color with a tall white head. Fragrant piney hop aroma over a malt base. Big flavored, hoppy with a good balance of malt that has brown sugar notes with just a touch of alcohol. Smooth with a long finish.

Bottled. Pale amber, brief head. Rich grapefruit aroma. Full bodied and sweet with clean mouthfeel. Sugary and enourmously hoppy with extremely bitter finish. An ambitious beer that misses the target. The malt profile is too hard and clean, it’s too sweet and the biterness in the finish is like ink.
