Ok, this is the cheapest of the cheap in the Tooheys stable so........750ml bottle (twist-top!) into schooner glass. Skunky nose from bottle, cooked vegetables from glass. Pale amber beer with many bubbles and lasting billowing white head. Has a chalky mineral water taste that zings on the tongue. Abrupt finish with a little malt, hard to find any hops in here. Actually palatable if you are desperate. Must be very cold. Lawnmower beer? Yes. BBQ beer? No.

Can, 0.375l. Clear pale golden color with large frothy white head and average sparkling appearance. Aroma is malty, grassy, grainy and vegetably. Taste starts with moderate sweet malt, fresh grainy sour and metallic following, dry mouthfeel and light bitter finish. Light body, thin texture and average carbonation in palate. Oh my deer, nothing special...

Bottled (thanks to my cousin Kaj!). No matter what the name says about red, this beer pours a golden colour with a white small head. Aroma is bready malts, some slight floral and herbal notes as well. Flavour is malts, some mild grassy and herbal notes along with mild bitterness. So atleast the "bitter" part is true in the name, even though to the style it is a pale lager. Better than expected.

From a 375ml bottle on 13/6/2010. A nostalgic trip back to the days when I was a young man and would buy cases of Toohey’s Red because it was nearly always on special. I’m pretty sure it used to be more than 4%. So how does it scrub up now that I know what a really good beer tastes like? It’s actually not quite as bad as I thought it would be. It does actually have a discernible sweet, malty, grassy aroma. In the mouth, it’s sweet, a touch metallic, with a very slight hint of hops. There is worse out there, but my case buying days are over.

One of the best bitters I tried during my recent Australian trip. Fresh, malty aroma and pours with a medium body. Some metallic aftertaste, but not quite as heavy as in other Australian pale lagers.

Light amber coloured body with a large soapy white head. Aroma of fresh malt, hops and a bit of metal - not too pleasant. Medium-bodied; Full of carbonation - a lot of malt and a mild sweetness comes up front. Aftertaste shows mild tastes throughout - some alcohol, a lot of malt and a little sugars and hops. Overall, a very mild and refreshing beer. I sampled this 375 mL (odd size) can purchased from the Duty Free section of the airport - near the United gates, in Sydney, Australia in Sydney, NSW on 27-July-2008, sampled on 13-September-2008 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

(Bottle 37,5 cl) Clear, fully golden with a nice, creamy head. Lightly malty aroma. Incredibly thin-bodied with slightly sweet, malty notes. Absolutely no bitterness. 020906

Canned. Clear fizzy golden, Yeasty and ashy. Sweet and unclean with notes of iron and smoke. No bitterness. Despites it’s obvious flaws it stays sort of remotely drinkable.
