Their best beer i've had thus far. Smoky, but not overhopped. Medium body, but it suits the beer perfectly, making it an easy drinker. Magnolia SF

Drauight at Alembic, San Francisco
Aroma is a bit light with roastiness, some peanuts, hints of coffee and licorice. Flavour has coffee and licorice with a dry, nutty finish. Smooth and a bit watery palate. Your typical Brown Ale.

on tap-pours a thin tan head and mahogany color. Aroma is rich medium/dark malt-cocoa/roasty. Taste is rich medium /dark malt-coffee/cocoa/roasty, some earthy hops. Easy. Soft carbonation.

(10/30/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in San Francisco. 4.1%. Dark reddish-brown color with a rather creamy beige head. Nutty malt aroma with some caramel, light fruitiness and buttery notes. Sweetish malty flavor with some nuts, toasted bread notes and caramel. Medium-bodied.

Cask at the brewpub. Roasted "brown" aroma. Opaque brown color with a decent tan head. Medium to full body with prickly carbonation. Flavor is dark roasted malt (but not burnt) with enough fuggles? hop to balance. Finishes malty and dry. Good brown.

(On tap) 4.9% ABV in my version. Clear, dark, orangey brown with a small, off-white head. Lightly nutty nose. Medium body, some nutty flavours and a dry finish. A very uncomplicated and highly drinkable Brown Ale. 210307

Dark brown. Upfront liquorice, toffee malts. Light body but smokey, toffeeish malts make this is pleasurable brown and the only fully realized beer I had at Magnolia.

Cask at the brewpub (3.7%). Near black. Pleasant roasty malt aroma that is carried on over into, and getting more intense, in the flavour. Light bodied with creamy mouthfeel. The low hop rate results in low bitterness and leaves alot of room for a well developed malt flavour. My favourite beer at this place.

Draft (handpump). Little aroma. Brown beer with a quickly dissapating head. Slightly burnt sour taste that was a little vinegry, but also smooth enough. Very light watery body. Maybe the cask had been on for too long and the beer was slightly off, or maybe not.
