50 cL bottle, courtesy of thewolf. Pours clear and golden brown with a lovely glare and light brown head. Aroma is smooth hoppy and roasted malty with a light chocolate note. Mild spiced and chocolate flavoured. Goes a lot more intense in chocolate on the back of the tongue. Light spice note into the far finish. Ages with grace!

Bottled. Dark ruby red colour, big beige head. Aroma is raisins, yeast, slight coffee and lots of hops. Flavour is roasted malts, raisins, yeast and some dry fruits. A very pleasant brew.

Bottled. Dark mahogany colour, rich head. Grapefruity nose. Sweet withsome roasty chocolaty malt. Medium bodied with fairly high carbonation. Lots of aromatic hops supported by firm clean malt. Finishes with medium bitterness. Very hoppy for a brown ale.

Bottled (BB 02/2007)
Dark nut brown color, decent brown head. Cookies, yeast, chocolate, brown sugar in the nose. Lots of cold coffee, coffee beans. Full-bodied. Typical (if there is one) Mikkeller-taste can be traced. Something between Jackie Brown and Beer Geek Breakfast.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a slightly cloudy dark brown with an orange tint. Dense, light brown head. Lightly burned malt aroma. Medium body with a rather heavy carbonation. Roasted malt and burned, coffeeish touches. A surprising - for Mikkeller - subdued bitterness. Not much "Restsødme" (residual sweetness) left for Keller here. Perhaps the yeast ate it all? 211106

Very dark chestnut brown. Nutty, earthy aroma. Light nutty flavour, with vague pale malt notes. Quick finish. There really isn’t anything going on in this one at all. I can barely find three words to write about it.

Bomber from Engelsmann, shared with SuIIy on 5/21/06. Best Before February 2007. Very deep chestnut tinges in a dark mahogany body, well-settled out, but showing low filtration and natural carbonation. Light butter-tan head is large, consisting of medium-large bubbles. Strong retention, minimal lacing. The nose is actually quite reserved. Soily, earthy floor malts with walnuts, pumpernickel and light anise-tinged hops that are herbal-nutty and tastefully done. The hops tease the palate, as soft, dry brown sugar notes and minor cola hints flitter about. A prominent sweetness begins to slowly build, but never does it become rich or overdone. Light cream, honey and dry cocoa notes finish out the beer as a touch of the earthiness makes a come-back. Flavor is unique, to say the least. The aroma was somewhat expected, but the flavor begins with dry leaves, mixed about by nutty yeast and dry cola notes. Quickly, some light anise and dry chocolate graham crackers enter the mix, continuing the dry trend. But a note of deeply citric, but not overly flavorful hops drives right down to the back of the palate. It’s one of the strangest hop notes I’ve tasted. Being neither acidic nor in-your-face, I guess I would best describe it as subtle grapefruit rind notes. The sweetness quickly follows, though by no means would I call this a sweet beer. Rather, the attenuation is high, leading to a drinkability and medium body, which, when bolstered by the fairly tight carbonation, gives you something along the lines of a Southern English Brown (with American hops). Roastiness is minimal as well, though it is there, just more deeply integrated with the crunchy earthy/soily/nutty dry malts. No alcohol whatsoever. I get some retronasal, light coffee notes, almost hazelnut-like.

[Sampled to celebrate my 5900th rating] Opening and pouring this beer - it is definately the most lively beer from Mikkeller yet - when poured the head is enormous. The beer is very dark brown, not much light comes thru even when held against a lamp, but I seem to see a slight haze in it. The head is as mentioned enormous, but quite fluffy and dark brown in color. The aroma is quite complex, the main note being a dusty hoppiness, but combined with notes of chocolate, and citrus. The flavor is sweet at the very beginning, but the sweetness soon resides to strong roasted notes, combined with notes of chocolate, that turns more toward crushed cocoa - especially taking the dryness it gives into account. The flavor also contains hints of citrus. The alcohol is felt slightly in the end. I don’t find the beer very balanced with the strong sweetness just in the beginning and an extreme dryness in the end, but the extremes makes the beer very complex, so that You really have to take Your time drinking it, to take the challenge. For the style this is a wonderful beer, since it offers a complexity that is seldom found in Brown Ales. Another great beer from Mikkeller.
