Our porter features a blend of roasted and caramelized malts giving it a luscious malt signature that has an earthiness derived from the non-traditional use of baked barley in the grain bill. The bold use of only Simcoe hops for both bittering and aroma highlights this hop varietal and balances the malt to create a robust, yet smooth finishing porter. Long ago, the owner gave his first employee, Chris Dooley, the honor of selecting the next beer style to produce. Dooley (never call him Chris) chose porter. However, the demand for Switchback Ale, our flagship brew, exceeded our capacity, preventing the release of this new beer for FIVE years. Our first kegs of this porter were finally sold in December 2009. Considering this long delay, we christened it Dooley’s Belated Porter.

On tap at The Reservoir - Waterbury, VT. A very respectable porter. Has all the stuff you want from the style - a bit of roast, touches of chocolate, modest bitter earth. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Pretty well balanced. Good effort, Switchback.

Sampled at the brewery. Pours a watery, mostly opaque black with some soft, brown head. Nose is nutty, malty, toast, chocolate. Flavor is the same, sweet, brown sugar, toasted bread, roasted nuts, dried chocolate powder. Medium bodied, dry finish. Very true to style. An easy drinker.

A deep dark brown porter with a thin light mocha head. In aroma, a sharp bitter chocolate with grassy hops and light fusel notes. In mouth, a sharp crisp short chocolate with grassy notes, short in mouth, leaving you on your hunger. On tap at Reservoir, March 12 2012.

on tap-pours brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasty medium malt, some fruit. Taste is roasty/some cocoa-medium/dark malt, some fruit hops.
