Bottle: Poured a clear deep amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aromas of candy-like notes are quite sublime with some sweet caramelized malt notes also perceptible. Taste is also dominated by fruit and candy-like ester which are quite powerful with some great notes of caramelized sugar with some toffee notes also perceptible. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. I really like the yeast strain that was used for this which generated some nice ester as well as the balanced sweetness level.

Aroma; Caramel, cherry and toffee. Typical aroma but not much developed and having difficulty sticking out. Visual: Black with red glints. Average creamy head, average lasting. Not much lacing either. Taste: Attack is cherry and dried fruits on a caramel basis. More hoppy than an average scotch ale with a bitterness finish, very long lasting and annoying. Texture is creamy and round, body is medium to full. Malty flavors are buried by strong and unpleasant hoppy finish. Caramel and toffee are not developing.

Cruchon 1,9L. De couleur brune-rouge très foncée et claire. Nez de caramel sucré et de grains de malt moyennement rôti , moyennement fruité (moyen de figues, léger de prunes), léger de noix et de houblon herbeux avec des notes de biscuits et des traces de chocolat. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture légèrement huileuse et aux notes sirupeuses. Gout fruité (moyen de figues, léger de raisins rouges, notes de prunes) accompagné de traces épicées (poivre très doux) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût de grains de malt moyennement rotis et de caramel toffee ainsi que des traces de chocolat, de biscuits et de pain. Parallèlement, l’on retrouve de très faibles notes d’alcool jusqu’en finale ou l’on retrouve une moyenne-légère amertume de houblon herbeux et des notes de noix. Post-gout moyen, moyennement amer de rôti, léger de houblon herbeux avec un léger goût fruité (notes de moût de raisins et de pelures de prunes) et des traces de noix.
