Stone 10th Anniversary IPA harkens back to our earlier Anniversary Ales, with abundant hopping at many stages of the brewing process. Appropriately, the aroma is over the top, with pronounced piney and resiny hop flavors combined with tropical fruit esters and more subtle notes of toasted malts and alcohol. Our Stone 10th Anniversary Ale weighs in at 10% alcohol by volume (perfect for a 10th anniversary beer), and has a little more color and malt character than our other IPAs. In addition to using the new Summit hop variety in the brewhouse to provide the powerful bitterness, we went back through our records and found some of our favorite hops over the years, and used them to flavor this brew, including Chinook, Crystal, and large doses of Simcoe in the dry hop to provide a huge, complex, piney, fruity and floral hop character. This is a colossal beer, big in every sense: hoppy, malty, rich, and strong! Right up our alley.

Chock-full of tropical and candies citrus goodness. Some sweet light malt. Slight resin in the aroma. Full, slick body. Orange with a tall white head that leaves quite the lacing in the glass. A pleasure.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/18/2016. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big apricot, peach, pineapple, tangerine, mango, papaya, grapefruit, lemon/orange peel, light pine, honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright/juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of huge apricot, peach, pineapple, tangerine, mango, papaya, grapefruit, lemon/orange peel, light pine, honey, lightly toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/herbal/citrus peel bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of apricot, peach, pineapple, tangerine, mango, papaya, grapefruit, lemon/orange peel, pine, honey, lightly toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy/sticky, and slightly slick/resinous balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a mild warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt sweetness; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

On tap at Elizabeth Station on Stone 20th Anniversary event. Pours a clear copper golden with a tan head. Aroma is sweet, with tropical fruits notes. Taste is very fruity with medium levels of sweetness and tropical fruits bitterness. Candied citruses bitterness aftertaste. Excellent.

Draught at Harry’s Hofbrau. Pine and resin aromas. Clear copper with small off white head. Taste is piney, sticky, alcohol burn. Side to side with the 5 year and the 5 year carried the day.

11 oz pour at City Beer, during their Stone 20th anniversary event. Oily copper golden pout with a thin fizz head. Hop heavy aroma from a distance with a noticeable booziness. A dominant tropical fruit profile. Full of pineapple. Some imperial heat to linger in the finish, but doesn’t overpower. Drinks nice as an overall. Solid stuff.

Draft at Bitter Creek. Copper pour, small frothy head. Woody, puny aroma. Malts become a bit more prevslent in the taste. A bit more like the DIpAs we know and love today.

Bottle, drank 5/27/2011. Wow. Poured a amber/copper color, small white head, dissipates quickly. Aroma was mellowed over the years, notes of pine, touch of citrus. Flavor was smooth, malty, touch of bite left from the remaining hop notes. Aroma was no where near as good as the flavor was.

Bottle from a trade with cbkschubert. This one should be interesting. Pours hazy copper color with thin tan head. Dusty caramel aroma with some alcohol and toffee. The aromatic hops are long gone in this one. Very sweet caramel and maolasses flavor with some iced tea and a little alcohol. Medium body with moderate carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. Pretty much a mild barley wine at this point. Interesting to see what happens to a DIPA after a few years. Thanks Craig.

Bottle. I consumed numerous bottles of this beer in September 2006 during a long, sunny, lazy vacation in the San Diego area. A copper coloured pour with a smallish head. Malty, hoppy aroma. Tastes really complex, hoppy, fruity, piney, bitter. A really big beer from Stone.
