The energy and audacity of the fixed gear courier inspired us to create Fixed Gear™, a big, bold American Red IPA. It pours a glaring crimson tone with a rocky white head and a brilliant floral-citrus aroma, thanks to an aggressive Centennial, Cascade, and Chinook dry hopping. Gratuitous amounts of dark caramel malts lend Fixed Gear™ its immodest, malty spine, while Chinook and Cascade hops impart its balanced citrus bite. This one’s got an attitude!

Bottle at The Guild, Victoria, BC
Red amber color with small head, unfortunately served in a frosted chalice. Slick caramel brew, light residual sugars, a bit fruity, estery, correct bitterness.
Decent.

bottle - Pours amber with many suspended yeast particles and a light tan head. The aroma is more toward caramel malt with some mild hops. It tastes of caramel malt and light, resinous hops. Medium bodied. Pretty good.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 12/11/2013. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy deep red-orange color with a 2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, brown sugar, biscuit, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, citrus rind, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/bready malts and citrus hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, brown sugar, light biscuit, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, floral, grass, light pine, and floral/toasted earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown sugar, tangerine, grapefruit, orange peel, floral, grass light pine, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and complexity of dark/bready malt and citrus/grassy hop flavors; with a good malt/hop balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and lightly slick/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice amber ale. Good balance and robustness of dark/bready malt and citrus hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.

from a bottle. smell is sweet hop perfume. medium dark brown with a quarter inch alabaster head. oh my, this must be stronger than 7%. does not hide alky well. yes, big strong medicinal impact coats the buds all round the front of your tongue. bitter, mouth coating. well, there certainly is an attitude about it. i swear, this cannot be only the 6.5% listed here. strong bullying flavors that kick a lager lover in the mouth. wew, long bitter alky laced annoying finish. not impressed. the sweet initial smell was just a false impression of what was to follow down the gullet.

Bottle courtesy of butters on 01/31/2011. Clear copper body with a medium creamy off-white head. Sweet tea-like aroma with some dry malt. Dry malty flavor, some tea-like notes and some slight wild hints. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

As a rider, I have an affinity for bicycle themed beers. This one’s not too bad, pours amber with modest foamy head, aroma is lacking but taste makes up for the shortfall. Nice hop bitterness, but not overdone, so it’s smooth and drinkable. I don’t like fixies, but I like this.

From a 12 oz bottle shared at the High Country Motel in Cooke City MT. Pours a fairly clear amber with a big frothy ecru head. Clean, crisp light hop aroma. Smooth and tasty.

This lovely coppertop gives off a nice mix of honey, biscuit, citrus and spices. The hops are prominent in the mouth, particularly on the middle of the tongue, and there’s butterscotch and caramel too. The drawback is that the palate is thinner than you’d expect, but it hides its 6.5% alcohol beautifully.
