The energy and audacity of the fixed gear courier inspired us to create Fixed Gear™, a big, bold American Red IPA. It pours a glaring crimson tone with a rocky white head and a brilliant floral-citrus aroma, thanks to an aggressive Centennial, Cascade, and Chinook dry hopping. Gratuitous amounts of dark caramel malts lend Fixed Gear™ its immodest, malty spine, while Chinook and Cascade hops impart its balanced citrus bite. This one’s got an attitude!

Purchased at Breeze Thru in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on a Friday after work after getting some tough family news. Appearance a nice cloudy brownish red with a rich off white head. Aroma of rich cone/spruce hops, caramel malts, definitely smells dry hopped, pretty nice smell. Taste is nice and bitter, squeezes the liquid from the back of your throat, dry, also has that nice caramel malt backing, slight toasted malt as well. I’m liking this one, nice offering from this brewery.

Bottle @ home. Hazy, dark reddish brown appearance with a big bubbly, tan head. Lots of pine, caramel, light toffee, mild floral hoppy aroma. Pretty carbonated. Bitter, piney, organic, grassy hoppy, rich caramel toffee malty flavor. Slightly syrupy. Bleh.

Pour is a dark red with a small white head. Aroma is caramel malts with a decent oily hop. Flavor is is the same. A decent, heavy malt followed by a nice hoppy backbone. Finish leaves a little earthy malt on the tounge. Decent enough amber ale.

This was one of those moments in beer hunting, tasting, experiencing, that will be very memorable, walked into the beer store and immediately saw this on the shelf, glided over to examine, and was love at first sight. Waited a day to taste while it cooled in the fridge to the right temperature. Even though my expectations were high, this exceeded all of them and qualmed my worries that it would be a dissapointment. Verging on the "too much to handle" list, this stayed on the right side of that line, and with its hop bomb character combined with enough malt note to balance, this was absolutely delicious. One of the best finds so far this year.
