The energy and audacity of the fixed gear courier inspired us to create Fixed Gear™, a big, bold American Red IPA. It pours a glaring crimson tone with a rocky white head and a brilliant floral-citrus aroma, thanks to an aggressive Centennial, Cascade, and Chinook dry hopping. Gratuitous amounts of dark caramel malts lend Fixed Gear™ its immodest, malty spine, while Chinook and Cascade hops impart its balanced citrus bite. This one’s got an attitude!

Approximately 16 oz mug draft at Wolski’s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pour is an unfiltered hazed orange brown, with a tan head that is lasting. Aroma is clear and fresh resin citrus hopes, along with a nice dose of toasty malt. Taste is the fresh hops, balanced nicely with the malt. Nice interplay between the citrus, resin, mild caramel sweetness and cracker toastiness. Palate is medium bodied, pleasantly unfiltered mouth feel, with a crisp dry mineral finish. I really liked this quite a bit.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Buy Rite - Jersey City, 1/27/11
Aroma: The nose is toasty, some caramel, bread, hops, light spice, and a little fruit
Appearance: The pour is clear reddish amber color with an off-white head
Flavor: A combination of toast, spice, and a little fruity spice, lightly sweet, fairly dry
Palate: The body is light-medium, with a fairly soft carbonation, and a shortish duration
Overall Impression: To me, this isn't really an Amber ale, this is more like a hoppy red. I'm not sure where I'd classify it, but Amber ale just doesn't feel right. Anyway, this is a decent beer. Not a great one, but decent enough that I'd drink it again.

22oz bottle. Cloudy amber-brown color. Lacy, oily head. A touch more aggressively hopped, west coast style I suppose. Pretty well done Red, the amber malt shines but is balanced out by the bitterness. Full bodied, but still sessionable. Soapy sweet bitter aftertaste. Nice malt depth. Good beer, lots of amber and crystal malt tones.

Bottled. A hazy amber with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of dusty hops, caramel, and a bit of citrus. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, hops, citrus, and some spices - nutmeg and pepper, leading to a dry finish.

Bomber from the Co-Op in Davis, CA. Pours ruddy copper with a 4-finger foamy beige head. Aroma of warm malt and lots of grapefruit hop. Fullish body and foamy carbonation. Flavor is malt and grapefruit - enough hop for a slight burn. Finishes bitter enough to not be an amber! Good brew.
