1784, the year in which Jan Baptist De Bruyne lays the foundation for Brouwerij Van Steenberge. No better ode to the founder of the brewery than our Baptist beers. Beers brewed with modern techniques and respect for our rich history. In addition to a tasteful tribute to our founder, Baptist Blond is also brewed on the occasion of the opening of our own Bar Baptist. The result is an accessible specialty beer with a full and rich taste.

Colour is clear deep golden, firm and stable rocky white head, heavy lacing. Aroma sweet malt, grain, mango, pine apple, light lime. Flavour medium bitter and light sweet, grain, dough, only light fruity accents, mineral notes; dry bitter finish, paper, spicy notes. All in all a rather bitter but somewhat bland blond, okay.

(Keg at L'Élephant dans la Canette, 20190916) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had sweetness and grass. Palate was light bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, sweetness, malts, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A weak brew with Belgian twist.

4th July 2019, 33cl bottle (BB 31st Jan 2021) in the yard of the Bier Paleis, Brugge. Clear blonde with a white top. A little citrus aroma and taste on a bed of yeastiness and malts. Ideal sunshine drink while in Belgium.

Good, very dense & fine, stable white head over hazy orange-golden beer. Creamy nose, bit diary, white candi sugar, honey, spicy malts. Initially more honey, rainwater, some pale malts.... Spritzy carbonation despite its rather dead looks; feels quite attenuated. Light to medium body. Omer, Gaston, etc., etc... and now Baptist. How very original. Typical V. Steenberge.
