San Francisco, a.k.a “The Paris of the West,” has long been home to a diverse culture of bohemians and a bastion of art, creativity, and progressive thinking.

This decadent dark quadrupel-style ale was created in that same spirit–brewed with dark candi sugar, dried flame grapes, and orange peel, then fermented with a French ale yeast. Pair with funky Roquefort cheese and visions of a grand tomorrow!

Bottle. Pours clear reddish hazel, small tan head, dissipate fairly quickly, some lacing. Aroma is Belgian yeast, roasted malts, cloves, prune, cocoa, raisins, black pepper. Flavor is light plus sweet, light bitter, spicy and rich, raisins and dark sugars. Medium body, a bit of acidity, solid.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brown with orange glints and a beige head. Aroma is malt and darker fruits. Med body or better. Flavor is smooth dark malt, something that makes me think coffee for a moment, and some darkish fruit flavors. Maybe a bit chalky in the finish, which is less than dry.
