330 ml bottle. Dark brown, close to black body with a moderate sized beige head. Aroma has dark, roasted malt, strong vanilla and some coffee. Flavor is very smooth, dark, mild roasted malt, vanilla, coffee, dark chocolate and balanced bitterness. Medium to thin body and fine aftertaste with smooth malt and vanilla. A fine take on the sweet stout that’s actually not too sweet and with a fine vanilla flavor.

Flaske fra Gulating Stavanger, hjemme en fredagskveld: brunsvart med ok skum. Mild og behagelig aroma og smak med røstet malt, vanilje, lys sjokolade og kaffe med en melkeskvett oppi. Fin bitterhet i avslutningen.

330ml bottle, batch 108, bought at Gulating Grünerløkka. Patchy tan-coloured head leaving spotty lacing down the glass. Pitch black body. Inviting aromas of confectionery chocolate, mid-sweet. Vanilla sweet taste offset by moderate impact of coffee and a mild roasted malty ending. Thin bodied, slightly watered on the swallow. Overall, pretty nice (Hotel room, Oslo 09.11.2016).

Growler. A cute looking dark brown beer, close to black, with a dense, finger-thick beige head leaving nice lacing. There’s a good dash of vanilla in the aroma, some roasted malts and chocolate and a touch of coffee. Sort of smells sweet as well. It’s sweet on the palate, but far from cloying, with the vanilla running the show. Coffee and dark chocolate is lurking in the back, along with some dark sugar, hoppy bitterness and roasted malts. It’s a bit thin on the palate, guess it would be interesting to see it at 6-6.5% ABV. Smooth carbonation. Long roasted finish with vanilla, coffee and roasted malts. Sure a tasteful and easy drinkable beer, it was quite easy to finish the growler. 161025
