Pours deep red from the bottle. An off white, frothy head lingers. Aroma is full of berry jam and orange peel. Not much smoke but there is a woody undertone. Taste is quite tart, full of red currant, but well balanced by an underlying bittersweetness and a mild note of woodsmoke that plays out at the end. Refreshing and yet nuanced—a combination I don’t find often. Body is medium, carbonation is balanced. I’ve had mixed experiences with this style but this is just my thing.

Fein säuerlicher Beginn, schnell ansteigende Intensität. Rauchig, etwas Karamell, die Säure bleibt im Vordergrund. Feine Karbonisierung, süffig, trocken, die Rauchigkeit bleibt konstant. Gut! 10/8/10/10//10

21-04-18 // tap at Kuehn Kunz Rosen, Mainz. Murky orange brown. Sour red nose. Aroma of some sweet cara malts. Some red berries. Muffy. Strange but nice.
