You hold the marriage of wine and beer. Belgian Red is a tapestry of flavor. This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin Farmed Wheat and Belgian Roasted Barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year.
Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely "Wisconsin." So unique, in fact, that we applied for a patent. Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet. Serve your friends Belgian Red in a brandy snifter or champagne flute and toast life with beer from the land of Wisconsin.

sample from bottle at DLD - Pours red with a thin head. It has a sweet cherry aroma that’s really nice and leads into an even better flavor. It’s fairly sweet with a great cherry flavor and mild spice. This medium bodied brew finishes tart and lingers a bit on the palate. This beer is to be savored and definitely lives up to the hype.

Bottle from iowaherkeye; Nose of sweet cherries; color is black cherry with a small pink tinged head; flavor is cherries with tartness that lasts to the finish; reminds me of the Roy Rodgers my anut would buyt me in bars in the 1950’s (for you young’un who don’t know about those)

As soon as I opened the bottle, the rich aroma of cherry pie begins to fill the kitchen. Sweet cherry pie! The nose is backed up by a solid blend of sweet and tart cherry with a little malt. Fruit dominates this beer. Thanks to badbeer for this excellent brew!

Tasted 2 vintages side by side, the 2006 one and the 1996 one. - Points for the 2006 one.
2006 Vintage Hazy red body, off-white head (small and mostly diminishing). Aroma of red candy, marzipan, ... Very sweet flavour, very artificial - candy-like. Lacks a lot of complexity which is to be found in the 1996 version. (5/3/5/2/8=2.3)
1996 Vintage Hazy, brown body, creamy lightly brown head. Sweet aroma of jam, applesauce, ... Lightly sweet, moderately sour flavour. This is very intense and really attacks your tastebuds. (4/4/8/4/16=3.6)
It’s amazing there’s so much difference between these two vintages. Off course some effects will be due to aging, but the 1996 version still attacks your tastebuds (after 10 years), but the 2006 version doesn’t even have the guts to try to attack them.

All cherries, all the time. There is some maltiness here, but I had to work overtime to find it. Cloudy dark amber pour with little head. Aroma is full of tart cherries with subtle malt notes. The flavor is virtually the same as cherry juice — sweet with a tart finish. More tartness would have been welcome. Medium body, sticky with lively carbonation. Tasty fruit brew.

++++RE-RATE 5/21/08++++
25.4 oz bottle purchased in March of 2008 at Chicones in Hudson, Wisconsin. OK, I had this one very early on, I believe it was my second rating on the site, figured I was due for a re-rate. Pour is hazy cherry red with a 1 inch pink-white head. Some really nice lacing. Beautiful pour. Aroma of tart, fresh cherries. Quite a bit of fruit sweetness. Smells like Cherry jam almost. Really spent a long time smelling this one. Taste is very much the sweet and tart cherries. This is amazingly fresh tasting. Very soft palate, quite mouth coating as well. I do certainly understand what all the fuss is about on this beer now, though its sweetness keeps this one from scoring higher for me. 8,5,7,5,15 (4.0).
++++ORIGINAL RATING 10/06/05++++
I poured this at GABF 06 and it appeared to be the most popular sample at the show. Great aroma and body. Head thinned out fairly fast. I found the taste to be a bit over powering, and not nearly as balanced as some of the Belgian classics. Good beer, but don’t see what all the fuss is about. 8,5,7,3,15 (3.8).

Thanks to DavidP for this bottle. Split this into two glasses a tulip and a flute. Color is very appealing - a bloody ruby red with carbonation visible in the light, The light does a great job illuminating the entire beer but looks murky when away from the light. Aroma is strong - all cherry - sour-sweet, earthy and slightly toasty. Taste is all cherry as well but TOO cherry for me. While I enjoy this in the aroma, the flavor is not "beer" enough. Taste just like my grandma’s cherry kompot. Very sweet, medium body, no bitterness. My girlfriend really likes the stuff so I pretty much got it for her.

Red cherry coloured ale with a nice rose head. Wild cherry aroma, like cheesecake, with cinnamon notes. Sweet cherry pie or cherry covered cheesecake, cinnamon, lactic acid notes. Deep cherryish body, rich, smooth, with nice acidity. A wonderful cherry pie. Tasted at Institut’s gambrinale, Outaouais, Oct. 28 2005. Bought from Restant du Mondial.
