We named Amasa after Amasa Bushnell, the first farmer to officially grow hops in Sonoma County in 1858 along with his hop growing partner Otis Allen. Their original hopyard was in the Green Valley region of Sonoma County near the small town of Sebastopol. It soon became evident that between the climate, soil, and other factors hops could easily be farmed and thrive in Sonoma County.

Amasa is an extra dry domesticated wild ale brewed and bottled to be enjoyed now, or aged. Ringing in at just 4.5% ABV, Amasa is not only sessionable, but it still retains a lot of flavor. The use of Brettanomyces yeast in the bottle conditioning process lends a rustic characteristic to the beer. If aged, many of the unique yeast qualities in the beer will become even more evident.

It’s a pale blonde beer with a large white frothy head. The liquid is moderately hazy. The bubbles are rocky and readily stick to the walls of my glass. Seems to have very good retentio n. Fresh pale grain aroma with medium fruitiness and a fair bit of brett. Apricots, white grapes. Some light citrus hop aroma. The brett is somewhat funky, more of a pleasant dusty farmhouse aroma, though. Moderate bitterness, dry, good fresh grain flavor. Light citrus hops. Starts with mild sweetness and finishes quite dry with brett funk. Light feel, relatively high carbonation. Nice beer.

510 ml bottle poured into a tulip. Bottle dated 12/20/13. Clear straw yellow with 3-4 fingers of off-white head on the initial pour. Head fades moderately. Nice carbonation streaming up the glass. Aromas of grassy and floral notes, lemon lime citrus, light funk and Brett. Tastes of light funk, floral and grassy notes, wheat, a little citrus peel. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Just a hint of tartness on the finish. Medium carbonation.
