BLAUW is an export beer, a beer type of bottom fermentation that was very popular in the 1950s. At that time, heavy manual labor was very important and the workers drank beer regularly.

At that time, export had a lower alcohol percentage than the regular lager and it was always offered in 33cl. That way they could drink more beer, without their work performance having to suffer.

Today, the export beer from Brewery Omer Vander Ghinste is called "BLAUW", because it was the color of the clothing that the workers were wearing to work. It is still offered in bottles of 33cl, but now has the same alcohol percentage as the lager. (5.2% alc.vol.)

BLAUW is brewed exclusively with natural raw materials: water, corn, barley malt, hops and yeast. Without the addition of preservatives, BLAUW therefore has a limited shelf life (9 months) and is preferably consumed as fresh as possible.

Bouteille: Pale golden, a bit unclear, small stable white head with a little lace, grainy-grassy-strawy nose; dryish bitter-sweet flavour, quite light bodied; astonishingly dry bitter-hoppy finish. Excellent Lager, by Belgian standards…

33cl bottle, BB 09/01/2013. Another great pils gem to add to the Belgian landscape.

33cl bottle @ home shared with dad. Clear golden color, full sized white head that diminishes quickly and leaves fair lacing. Smell malts, grains, lightly wort. Taste malts, grains, lightly bitter. Little bit sticky texture, low body, low to medium carbonation.

Okay aroma of grains, decent flavour that is heavy on malt and grain with a mid-dry finish. Appearance was average. A better lager.

Bottle at Den Bras in Kortrijk. Pours gold with a creamy white head that laced decently. Medium plus body with spritely carbonation. Flavor of bready pale malt withs lots of grassy hop. Flavors are pretty strong. Finishes dry and nicely bitter. Touches of light fruit off and on. Refreshing.
