11/12/12/14/11/12

From the Kalea Advents Calendar, courtesy of Peggy. Dark, dark brown with a thin head. Aroma of licorice and cherry cough drop. Taste is sweet with a mild cherry fruitiness at the finish, but a touch artificial. Medium bodied, overly carbonated for the style. Better than some of the other attempts at a stout I’ve had from German breweries but still flawed.

330ml bottle. Clear, dark brown colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Caramel and dark malty aroma, hints of malt lozenge, some toffee. Taste is sweet, caramel and dark malty, slightly bitter alcoholic, hints of malt lozenge, a touch of treacle and toffee, diluted hints of bitter coffee; minimally overcarbonated. Quite simple and anaemic for an Impy Stout, at the same time way too alcoholic for an easy managable amount of flavours.
