A tartuffe (tar-TOOF) is a hypocrite who feigns religious virtue. Heretic’s Tartuffe is our take on a Berliner Weisse-style ale. Our head brewer has a thing for this beer style. He loves the tart, refreshing character that comes from using lots of wheat malt and a multi-day sour mash. Try it by itself or mit schuss, the traditional German addition of raspberry or woodruff syrup. Either way, enjoying life is a true virtue.

22oz bomber pours deep gold with a slight haze and short lived white head of foam. The aroma offers up grainy malts to sort of bready and then kind of acidic lime. The taste delivers some lime citrus, mild acidity and the getting modestly dry with some tart notes. It ends fairly dry and refreshing.

Pours gold with a small, quickly fading head.Restrained nose. Some soft wheat and faint lemon hints along with a bit of cooked corn. Very faint.Flavours show an in initial sweetness and some cooked vegtable characters followed by a mild tartness hinting at lemons to slightly redeem things.Body feels watery.

Bomber from Beverages 4 Less in Santee, CA. Pours hazy light gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Can’t get much aroma. Med minus body. Flavor is lightly tart wheat. Building up a bit of lemon sour. Nice, but certainly not on the extreme end of the style. Maybe gets a bit yeasty in the finish.

Bottle, 10C. Slightly hazy orange with small white head that is soon gone. Aroma is wheaty with apple and lemon. Light bodied with a suggestion of slipperiness. Slightly honeyed sweetness, modest tartness, dry finish is a little peppery. Refreshing.
