A tartuffe (tar-TOOF) is a hypocrite who feigns religious virtue. Heretic’s Tartuffe is our take on a Berliner Weisse-style ale. Our head brewer has a thing for this beer style. He loves the tart, refreshing character that comes from using lots of wheat malt and a multi-day sour mash. Try it by itself or mit schuss, the traditional German addition of raspberry or woodruff syrup. Either way, enjoying life is a true virtue.

Golden and clear. Aroma is super grainy and taste really surprise with extra sour acidity. Nice and sessionable. Malty grains still shining at the end.

Some what pale golden color. But the nose is nothing. So dead. But the mouth is super sour, with horse blanket and hay. Well balanced but lacking in the nose. Good stuff

Bottle from the brewery. It pours a clear pale yellow color with a fizzy white head that disappears. The aroma has wheat and very lightly toasted grains. Hints of lemon and herbs. The flavor has some lightly herbal hops, strong wheat and very light tartness. The body is a bit dull for the style, but still somewhat refreshing. A bit more lemony tartness and a lower gravity would probably help this one.

Tap at DC Hama. Very light wheat nose with some light lemon and crackery malts. Body is very light with slightly watery mouthfeel. Very refreshing and easily drinkable by the gallon. Nice light tartness on the palate that keeps you coming back for more. Very simple beer, but solid for the style. Very enjoyable. --- Beer merged from original tick of Tartuffe on 29 Feb 2016 at 18:14 - Score: 7

22 oz bottle dated 6/25/2012. Let’s see if age helps this thing out. Aroma is fairly dull. Light what and grain notes with a light lactic acidity. Hints of citrus and yogurt. Light stone fruit character. Pours a slightly hazy, pale yellow, straw color with a moderately sized, thin white head that quickly recedes to the edges. No lacing or legs. Flavor is rather disappointing. Just a light hint of acidity up front; I have had more acidic Saisons. Light make and what notes with hints of citrus and stone fruit. No bitterness. Mouthfeel is light bodied and slightly water with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a really not nice Berliner with only faint acidity. This clearly did not get more acidic with age. It also send to lack charger and carbonation.

On tap at Gourmet Haus. Pours a hazy yellow with white head that quickly faded. Nice tartness and lemon throughout both the aroma or flavor. Nice and refreshing.
