You know the deal with the name ‘Modern Times’? It was an experimental utopian community that lived a brief, brilliantly crazy life in the mid-19th Century. Totally by chance, our brewery is located in the San Diego neighborhood of Point Loma, which was founded as a Theosophical utopian community called “Lomaland” in 1900. So that’s a thing. This beer tastes like friendly, sophisticated sunshine. It’s a Belgian-style farmhouse ale.

On tap at St. Augustine's, pours a clear pale straw yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of fruity sweet esters from the Belgian yeast, smelling like a typically lobotomized North American saison. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of fruity esters from the Belgian yeast that don't impart much genuine farmhouse character, but end up just cloying the palate. Not a fan.

Can I think from Beers Gonzo, Earlsdon, Coventry, consumed at home Sunday 13th November 2016 Pours crystal clear gold, sparkling, within a white head, clinically clean looking beer. Clean, fresh nose, a little peppery but with a touch of sweetcorn. A touch of residual sweetness, clean flavours, light hoppiness, dry finish, a touch thin compared to some of the best Belgian Saisons. Good. A6 A5 T6 P3 Ov12 3.2

Can from Milk and Hops-Chelsea. Clear gold pour, bright, frothy white head and some nice, drippy lacework. Peppery yeast, other spices, grass, earth, and some funk/hay. Flavor is right on rustic Saison, lots of spice and earthy flavors. Grassy too. Very similar to the aroma. This is a really nice example of the style. Lasting spice and a nice tingle on the tongue. Just a quality beer, what else really needs to be said?

Cloudy blond color, small head. Earthy aroma, manure, mild spices, nice. Spicy yeast flavor, light fruity esters, but also light sourness and mild vegetable feeling.

Draught at John Scott’s Linné on July 16, 2016.Slight bit hazy straw yellow to pale golden color, small white head with lacing. Acidic, banna, spicy taste. A tad sour, spicy aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel, low to very low bitterness. Acidic, spicy scent.Not very enjoyable to me, happy I managed to order a smaller pour.
