You know the deal with the name ‘Modern Times’? It was an experimental utopian community that lived a brief, brilliantly crazy life in the mid-19th Century. Totally by chance, our brewery is located in the San Diego neighborhood of Point Loma, which was founded as a Theosophical utopian community called “Lomaland” in 1900. So that’s a thing. This beer tastes like friendly, sophisticated sunshine. It’s a Belgian-style farmhouse ale.

Can from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - a bit lively on opening. Pale golden with a slight haze. A generous head. Nose - light citrus and cereal. Honey at the back. Taste - much more like a saison than on the nose. Candied orange and light spice. Palate - close to medium bodied with a tangy texture and a long dry tangy finish. Overall - a good example of the style.

On tap at BierCraft with Jamey and Brad. Aroma is slightly sour, hoppy, flowery. Same taste. Piney bitterness, slightly sour aftertaste. Quite soft, probably wheat is added. Good one.

Can. Hazy yellow - gold beer, good fluffy white head. Palate is airy and fairly dry with good fine carbonation. Fluffy malts, dry and not that sweet. Tangy floralness. Spice. Thin watery fruits, oddly tangy and bitter. Light dry finish. Found this too tangy and awkward. A disappointment from this otherwise fine brewer.
