Renamed "glutenvrije quadrupel" meanwhile, this is originally one of Slaapmutske's Hop Collection beers, featuring a different hop with each edition - Kent Goldings in this case. Steinie bottle from the Delhaize supermarket at Watersportbaan in Ghent. Rosy-tinged very pale beige, very creamy, hops-enhanced, frothy, huge and dense head on an initially near clear warm orangey peach blonde robe with ochre-ish tinge, misty with sediment. Aroma of young 'graanjenever' upfront, peaches soaked in gin, brioche, halfripe peach, drying orange peel, coriander seed, hints of vegetable stock, cold pumpkin soup, unripe pear, banana, raw carrot and a vague background whiff of manure but not in an overly offensive way. Sweet onset, canned apricot, ripe pear and banana peel, prickly carbonation, full and soft mouthfeel; white bread- and brioche-like maltiness with honeyish residual sugars on top along with coriander seed spiciness and some clove-like phenols which also become a bit 'soupy', another effect of an overdose of 4-vinyl-guaiacol. Floral hop bitter notes unfold - but before the Kent Goldings can unfold its 'rural', earthy and herbal features, it is halted and scorched away by a wry, cheap jenever-like, warm and crude booziness, extending the bitterness of the hops in a way that does not pay the hops the respect they deserve. Way too boozy for its own good: why not keep this at, say, 5-7% ABV in order to let the hops speak for themselves? Adding insult to injury, the brewer even renamed it 'quadrupel' and gives this term more emphasis than the hops, so the booziness is only being underlined that way - while in reality this is not even a quadrupel at all, lacking malty and sugary sweetness as well as colour. This is, if anything, a very typical Flemish tripel, and one of the unrefined and utterly boozy kind. Slaapmutske has a quarter of a century of experience now: sorry Dany, but you can do a lot better than this...
