For those that don’t know the beer, it is our Barley Wine which we then aged in an array of Scotch Whisky barrels for over 6 months. The beer has fantastic depth and complexity from both the base beer and the whisky barrels. It is a warming, sipping beer for the end of an evening. The lyrics on the can are from a traditional song “Benny Havens, Oh”, sung by many a West Point Cadet over the years.

Third, keg at CASC, Aberdeen. Hazy golden body with sediments to it. Dissipating head, minimal lacing. Sweet smell of dried fruits and toffee. Apricot and malty sweetness to the taste buds offset by an ending of spiced bitterness. Warming down the swallow, noticeable alcohol. Medium bodied. Quite alright (17.04.2016).

Tasting glass during Moor Tap Takeover @ Gollem from a 500 ml. (?) bottle. Limited to 1000 bottles. Benny Havens aged on Whiskey barrels I believe. Base beer was never meant to be sold but the barrels turned out smaller than promised. Base beer was a confusing affair with strong DIPA qualities, rather messy & unbalanced. It makes sense to learn that it was brewed specifically to be aged on barrels. BA version is absolutely gorgeous. Dark orange with little head. Nose is absolutely massive on sweet vanilla, oak, lots of orange & marmalade. Taste is massive vanilla, oak, oodles of marmalade, candy, sugar, warming, sweet, malty,… Creamy rich marmalade body. This is gorgeous, oodles of gorgeous marmalade with oak vanilla. Original review text: Draft glass @ Gollem. Dark orange, huge off-white head. Nice lacing. Nose is hugely bitter orange peel, pine, massively hoppy, peach, smells like a DIPA & not a Barley Wine. Taste is big sweet band aid, marmalade & candy sugar with huge pine & orange peel, bread, rather boozy, halfway between warming & boozy, candy sugar, low juniper berries,…. Considering the amount of hops here this is basically just a malty & boozy DIPA,… Messy beer & as you drink more of it you start getting some prominent plaster & band aid notes,… Thick & malty DIPA body. Messy & confusing beer but agreeable.
