For those that don’t know the beer, it is our Barley Wine which we then aged in an array of Scotch Whisky barrels for over 6 months. The beer has fantastic depth and complexity from both the base beer and the whisky barrels. It is a warming, sipping beer for the end of an evening. The lyrics on the can are from a traditional song “Benny Havens, Oh”, sung by many a West Point Cadet over the years.

31/XII/23 - 33cl can from I don’t know anymore, shared @ the Abeels’ place, BB: 11/XII/23, 2018 edition (2023-1223)
Clear deep orange beer, creamy off-white to light beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: nice, caramel, sweet impression, some vanilla, dried fruits, a bit malty, alcohol, a little peated. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: pretty bitter, a bit smoky, malty, slightly sweet, alcohol, phenols, more bitterness, some caramel. Aftertaste: alcohol, caramel touch, bitter, whisky, some ripe banana, more alcohol, a gentle roast of some kind, a hint of chocolate, ok but not nearly as good as the Benny Havens I had in 2016 at Tilquin English Beer Festival.

A hazed reddish copper ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light vinous character, alcohol warmth, light barrel notes, woody notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with light wooden barrel notes, alcohol warmth, light vinous character, very nice and balanced.

33cl can from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. 2018 vintage. Pours opaque amber, unclear, with practically no dual. Aroma is toffee, woody, malty. Body is thick, with average carbonation. Taste has quite an alcoholic tone, with a good balance of intense sweetness and bitterness. Final is pretty long with medium intensity of bitterness.

Ruikt een beetje naar kaas. Smaak is een beetje ongebalanceerd en raar. Suikerig, licht zoutig, wat lomp eikenhout en zelfs een beetje metaalachtig. Jammer.

Tried at Moor Bermondsey. Amber colour. Slim head. Aroma woody and pear smoke. But also stood next to a wood fired pizza oven. Light smoke and slight sweet taste. Boozy body.

Keg at Moor, Bermondsey. Fruity boozy aroma. Opaque amber. Off-white head. Medium bitter with a boozy whisky - peat? - warmth. Medium bodied. Slick. Slightly astringent finish. Yummy.

330ml can. Light hazy orange, almost no head. Aroma of marmalade, citrus, floral. Taste is sweet, malty, marmaladey, citrus and floral hops, light rindy bitterness. Very little carbonation. Easy drinking for a barley wine but lacking something.
