This is the kind of beer that gives the word "stout" a reputation. Extra generous quantities of barley malt, followed by vigorous fermentation leaves this "imperial" heavy weight with 8% alcohol A.B.V. and a body as full as chocolate bread pudding. A complimentary and complex array of bitter notes comes form potent American hops, earthy British hops, black-roasted malts and, of course, coffee. Santa Fe Brewing Company uses only top-quality ingredients like organically grown East Timor coffee beans blended with New Guinea coffee beans, locally roasted by O’hori’s Coffee House. Its heavenly flavor and aroma can’t be beat or imitated.

Can. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is roasted malt and smoke. Thin mouthfeel with a smokey malt and lingering light dry finish. A decent imperial stout from Santa Fe.

Can 35,5 cl. Courtesy of Doodler. Pours an almost clear dark orangey brown with a rich and frothy light brown head leaving some lacework. Coffee/chili aroma with subtle dark roast. Medium body, sweet roast and heavy coffee accents - again dusty chili as I often associate with coffee. A little roasty bitterness. 260412

12 ounce can into snifter, no canning date. Pours pitch black with some brown on the edges; with a huge 2-3 finger khaki head with incredible retention that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Some nice lacing clinging to the glass as well. Aromas of big roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, biscuit, and some herbal hops. Very nice and well balanced aromas. Taste of big chocolate, roasted coffee, caramel, roasted malt, toast, and light spiciness. Good amount of bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of coffee, roasted malt, caramel, and herbal spiciness. Nice balance of flavors with a good amount of robustness. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a decently creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Very easy to drink for 8%, and there is really no alcohol presence noticed. Overall this is a great coffee stout! I am guessing this was at least over a year old, but it has held up the coffee flavors quite nicely. Nice balance of flavors and easily drinkable.

Dark brown. Very rich coffee character. Quite smooth. Good balance, rich coffee. Light stouty character. Not super well-balanced but there’s a little sweetness and I actually like the coffee character.

Wynkoop Parade of Darks 2011. Black appearance with a tan head. Aroma is almost completely dominated by an intense, acidic, black coffee ground smell. There’s some hints of the roastiness of the malts- I think- but it’s hard to say over the coffee. Roasty chocolate malty, potent black coffee ground flavor. I’m usually not a fan of these overly assertive coffee beers but at least in this case, I didn’t get the rough coffee ground texture. Kind of weird to drink this from a can.
